The Sunfield Center Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorders (ADHD) and Disruptive Behavior Disorders Service provides comprehensive diagnostic evaluations for children and adolescents to determine if patients are experiencing difficulties due to ADHD and/or a disruptive behavior disorder, as well as other related conditions, such as anxiety or depression. After the evaluation, we provide a report with individualized treatment recommendations. We also assist with coordinating care across physicians, teachers, and mental health providers. As part of the evaluation and ongoing treatment process, we also communicate with families in consultation with their psychiatrists, when applicable, regarding whether and how psychotropic medication may be combined to increase treatment effectiveness.
Prior to the evaluation, parents/guardians are asked to complete and return a packet of forms, which will be reviewed before their scheduled appointment. During the evaluation, which typically lasts 3-4 hours, parents/guardians and the child/adolescent will be interviewed regarding symptoms of behavioral difficulties as well as any other areas of concern. Feedback with regard to diagnosis and treatment recommendations is scheduled approximately two weeks following the evaluation. A written report summarizing the findings is then provided approximately three to six weeks after the final appointment.
