Adolescent to Adult Transition Planning Workshop – TBD

We are happy to announce that Sunfield Center in collaboration with the University of Michigan School of Kinesiology is offering a new workshop “Adolescent to Adult Transition Planning” for professionals who work with individuals diagnosed with a developmental disability such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Down’s Syndrome & Cognitive Impairment. This workshop will provide professionals with a roadmap on how to advise and guide parents as well as tools to help adults with special needs access necessary supports and services. 

Sunfield Center is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. Sunfield Center maintains responsibility for this program and its content. Sunfield Center designates the following CEs for this workshop:

The “Adolescent to Adult Transition Planning Workshop” is designed for professionals who work with individuals diagnosed with a developmental disability, including psychologists, physicians, pediatricians, speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, social workers, physical therapists, counselors, advisors, educators and other professionals and graduate students in related fields.

This workshop provides an overview of the adolescent to adult transition planning process by focusing on the following key areas: education, employment, daily living skills, health, finances, and community involvement. Learning objectives include: Participants will gain insight into the difficulties that adolescents with special needs typically face during this transition period, and will receive key information and guidance on available resources and services for adolescents/adults with special needs. Examples used for the purposes of teaching during this training will be specific to Autism, however, key areas covered should apply to all individuals with developmental disabilities.

Presenters will be providing the workshop using a multi-method approach, including lectures, videos and discussions.
